Log-in Logística Intermodal Partners With Nautilus Labs To Reduce Emissions and Optimize Voyage Profitability

The partnership

Brazil-based Log-In Logística Intermodal, founded in 2007, plans, manages, and operates the best solutions for coastal cargo movement. Log-In’s integrated network facilitates port movement and door-to-door transportation. Thanks to its extensive intermodal network, the company covers a geographical range in the whole of Brazil and Mercosur. The liner company’s mission is to offer coastal navigation and port handling services that generate profitable long–term relationships and contribute to the increase of Brazil’s competitiveness. Log-In and Nautilus began their relationship in 2020, deploying Nautilus across two container-liner vessels, to reduce fuel waste and optimize operations. The companies have since expanded their partnership across Log-In’s fleet of seven container liners that will benefit from Nautilus’s solution.

“We chose to partner with Nautilus with the goals of streamlining and unifying vessel data, achieving quantifiable fuel savings and reduced emissions, and increasing transparency and collaboration among internal stakeholders. We were looking for a solution that allows our operations team and masters to make data-driven decisions to optimize vessel operations and adhere to strict ETAs. The partnership helped us drive internal behavior change with great results: Nautilus is more than another platform, they integrate into our existing workflows. Nautilus enabled a smooth transition by quickly demonstrating results, which built our team’s trust in their recommendations, leading to a high level of adherence. They have transformed the way we operate and are an integral partner on our path towards innovation and improved sustainability.” — Flavio Gonçalves, Operations Manager at Log-In Logística Intermodal

Improved transparency between onshore and offshore teams to optimize voyage outcomes

Nautilus’s solution was initially implemented on two container vessels of Log-In’s liner fleet, that serve the route from Buenos Aires (Argentina) to Fortaleza (Brazil), and have to adhere to strict ETAs. Both vessels leveraged Nautilus to maintain their ETAs, using just-in-time arrival. The optimization of speed in conjunction with ship-specific machine learning-based performance models, weather forecasts, sea state, and time sailing allows the vessels to reduce engine output while still being able to maintain a similar speed over ground.

Vessel A has received operating recommendations for 363 voyage days. On average, the vessel reduced its total fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by 2.4% compared to average consumption prior to applying Nautilus’s solution.

Vessel B has received optimal recommendations for 76 days. Adhering to Nautilus’s instructions, the ship was able to reduce total consumption and CO2 emissions by 5.9% compared to benchmark values prior to working with Nautilus.

Across both vessels and over the course of 439 optimized sailing days, Log-In reduced fuel consumption and cut emissions by 3.12%, the amount of CO2 equivalent to taking 278 cars off the road for an entire year.

Reducing carbon footprints while improving commercial outcomes

Nautilus’s solution empowers maritime shipping leaders with insight-driven recommendations through predictive decision support to reduce emissions while maximizing commercial outcomes. Nautilus generates ship-specific operating recommendations that are shared with crews and shoreside teams for easy access. The technology is powered by a proprietary combination of machine learning, naval architecture, and millions of data points. It offers the most accurate real-time prediction of voyage outcomes in the market. Nautilus’s fully interoperable solution, which is deployed by several energy majors, large operators, and leading ship owners, requires no additional hardware and works within the terms of Charter Party Agreements. Unlike other solutions, Nautilus takes a commercial approach and capitalizes on opportunities created by external factors to unlock maximum financial returns and reduce emissions.
