The young venture capitalist was reviewing valuation multiples of startup tech companies with the Chairman of a large and successful publicly traded shipping company. She explained that startups had recently received 20 to 30 times multiples in her VC funds tech and wellness space. One didn’t have to be in the room to see the shipping magnate shake his head in rueful disbelief, undoubtedly wondering to himself the last time a ship or shipping security might have come close to that multiple.
